Modi announces setting up of 'Green Revolution Company':
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi Thursday announced his intention of setting up a "Green Revolution Company" that would help farmers increase productivity.Gujarat State Fertilisers Company (GSFC) and Gujarat Narmada Fertiliser Company (GNFC), two state-run companies that had made a profit of Rs.15 billion "thanks to farmers", would join hands to "give birth to a new company called Green Revolution Company", he said.Modi was addressing the concluding session of the two-day "Vibrant Gujarat" global investors' summit."Punjab led the country in the first green revolution. Gujarat will lead the country in bringing about the second green revolution, just as it had led in the white revolution," he said, referring to the state's role in improving milk production.Modi said the proposed company would develop a state-wide network for drip irrigation, which would go a long way in responding to the perennial water shortage faced in several parts of Gujarat.He thanked all investors who reposed their faith in Gujarat and made investment promises totalling Rs.1061.61 billion ($24.3 billion) during the summit.More than 6,000 delegates, including 300 from 30 countries, participated in the summit."We believe in reforms that are policy-driven and ultimately benefit all sections of the society," Modi said."Our work has not ended with the conclusion of the summit, it has just begun.
